Advocacy Training – Support Your Children

In the context of PTA, advocacy is supporting and speaking up for children — in schools, in communities, and before government bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children. Duval County Council of PTAs offers Grassroots Advocacy Training. This training is designed for those who are interested becoming effective advocates for education or for those interested in teaching the next generation of PTA leaders the skills to be effective issue advocates. Disability Awareness Weeks

In 2008, Disability History and Awareness instruction weeks were established for all schools in Florida, to occur during the first two weeks in October. School districts are required to designate the first two weeks of October as Disability History and Awareness Weeks and also promotes providing instruction for students in all public schools to expand student knowledge, understanding, and awareness of individuals with disabilities, disability history, and the disability rights movement. The Teacher Supply Depot Needs High School-aged volunteers YEAR ‘ROUND!   Students who need creative hours for the IB program are also welcome.  Please wear comfortable work clothes that could get dirty.  An emergency contact phone number for anyone under 18 who is not accompanied by an adult will be required. PTA School of Excellence

National PTA School of Excellence is a recognition program that supports and celebrates partnerships between PTAs and schools to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being for all students. What Does it Take to Become a National PTA School of Excellence? By enrolling in this program, your PTA and school administrators are making a year-long commitment in identifying and implementing an action plan for school improvement based on PTA’s National Standards for Family-School Partnerships. Those that exhibit improvement are honored as National PTA Schools of Excellence, a distinction that spans two years. Honorees receive celebration tools and automatic consideration for the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Award and a $2,000 grant for their school.
