This legislative season has been filled with a lot of activity and sometimes it can be difficult to keep up. We want to help highlight some key areas of importance. READ MORE →DCCPTA will be doing a Diaper Drive to help those on Florida’s West Coast that suffered a great amount of loss due to the recent hurricanes. We will be collecting for Newborn to Toddler size diapers and pull-ups to ship over to help many families who are in desperate need of these. It has been so exciting to have a lot of our PTA/PTSAs reinstated, some haven’t had a PTA in 5 to 10 years! READ MORE →Resolution Background As many of you may remember, the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Advocacy Committees worked on drafting a dress code resolution last school year. The resolution was first approved by our DCCPTA Board and then it was shared with our local chapters for them to vote on and the resolution was approved with a majority vote across our local DCPS PTA/PTSA’s. The next step in the process was to then share our resolution with the DCPS school board for their consideration, which we did at the end of last school year. To clear up some confusion, our DCCPTA resolutions are not binding with DCPS nor the school board. It is simply an advocacy tool that we can use

READ MORE →Welcome back to all our Local Units for the 2022-2023 School Year. I am excited about our new year, and we have so many PTA/PTSA’s that are re-starting. We have a phenomenal DCCPTA Board this year and we are off to a great start with having our first board meeting in person since Covid. I have had a very busy summer attending the National PTA Convention and Hill Day in Virginia this past June as well attended the Florida PTA Convention in Orlando, Florida. On Tuesday, August 30, 2022, the Duval County Council of PTAs will host its’ first in-person general meeting in over 18 months. It will be exciting to reconvene amid safer, post-pandemic conditions as we advocate and work on behalf of students throughout our school communities. The results of a national survey of over 2,500 parents, released by National PTA in June 2022, revealed 80% of parents reported they think the 2022-2023 school year will be better. The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) is now accepting public input on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and would greatly appreciate your engagement in this very important dialogue. Through July 22, 2016, all members of the public will be able to submit comments on each component of the law. The FDOE will consider this feedback as they develop Florida’s draft state plan.
